Photo Journal: Blue and Grey

Along the Waimakariri looking for something to shoot on a warm day in the middle of the day. They are digging there for rocks and this leaves puddles and gaps in the banks that fill up with water. I was actually amazed the play of colors and lines in blue and grey right in front of me.

All it took was taking out distracting colors and for the rest let the remaining colors and lines do the work. Simple!

Photo Journal: Flowers

Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. Song of Songs 2:12

… See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. Matthew 6:29

Summer to me, besides the beautiful weather is together with the spring the season of explosions of color and fragrance, of amazing flowers that never cease to amaze me, new ones that I had never seen before or golden oldies that look even more beautiful than before.  Hard to beat beauty, truly royal indeed, whether it is a magnificent big flower or the tiniest small one, they all have something of a very special beauty to be enjoyed while it lasts. The good news, next season WILL come, there WILL be a new summer again and again and again in which very often the flowers come out even more beautiful, in which the plant has grown to produce even more flowers.

And so it seems with my Christian journey, one day a blossoming flower the other day withered, just as Peter explained referring to Isaiah:

 “All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
1 Peter 1:24

But like I said there WILL be a new summer, in which like the flowers we come out even more beautiful than last season. Maybe that is what Paul meant when he said:

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18

Photo Journal: This is the day the Lord Has Made

Psalm 118:24 tells us

24 This is the day the LORD has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

That feeling creeps up on me when I see a beautiful sunrise or sunset both in a prospective or retrospective sense. In the gallery below some of the special views Ben and I enjoyed watching the sunrise over the see in Golden Bay. It is amazing, I felt like a child in awe. At my ‘old’ age I saw the sunrise over the sea for the first time. The explosion of color, light, but also sound and smell as nature wakes up, mind blowing. And to share it with my oldest son absolutely fantastic. And like we are instructed in Psalm 118:24, we rejoiced in this day the Lord had made and the day was a blessed one before it even started  for real.

Photo Journal: Guitar Pics

In the past period I have been playoing around with the guitar as a subject to make pictures of.

In the gallery below you’ll find some of the results. I was actually quite amazed at the beauty of the lines and curves, bot of the guitar on its own and as a group.

And while you are at it, perhaps like my Renaissance Man Music facebook page where I will be posting lessons and guitar notes as soon as I have 25 likes.

Photo Journal: Canterbury Museum & Discovery for the Kidz

Ask my youngest what he would like to go and do and at least six out of ten times he’ll want to “go to the Museum” (and museum cafe). And I can but say, we have had some great times there with all the boys.  I remember well the Da Vinci exhibition I went to see with my oldest son.

Museum Experiences

Real New Zealand

There is a good collection of Maori art and tools and the boys always seem fascinated by the live size displays illustrating how the Maori lived and worked.

Real People

All about the people that shaped the history of New Zealand.

Real Life

Nature and natural history of New Zealand.

Real Cool

The Arctic experience.

Real Stories

On how life was and is in Canterbury.

And then there are Real History and Real Design but for the boys there is only one way the visit is complete: a visit to Discovery.

Real Fun

A place where everything can be touched, felt, looked at, experienced. They just love it, and because of that it’s great for the parents as well.

Any visit usually turned out to be a success. Go check it out yourself now: more information here >>>>

Photo Journal: Spring is Color

What I probably enjoy most about spring besides the better temperatures coming out of a cold and wet winter, is the sudden burst of color as a result of the first flowers. I will let the pictures do the talking. Taking up a camera some years ago certainly opened my eyes again. It is so easy to take these things for granted, but if you take a good look around you you can but stand back in awe, even about the simplest ordinary flowers. For me, picking up a camera certainly assisted in being aware again of all the beauty that surrounds us, so easily overlooked.

Nature waking up from its winter sleep. Amazing!

Photo Journal: Spring Is Here Again (as far as I am concerned)

Spring might start next month officially, but as far as I am concerned it has arrived.  The weather was nice today and we went for a walk in Hagley Park. The change of season brings its own beautiful mix of colors and scenes and Hagley Park is certainly a place to enjoy that.

For the first time since last autumn we had our lunches outside in the park.
But more importantly: during our walk in the park we had the pleasure to see the first daffodils, crocuses and snow clocks for this year. SPRING HAS ARRIVED as far as I am concerned.

And there were other messengers.

What a fantastic walk it was and again and again I am amazed at how beautiful Hagley Park is. Whatever season.

Go for a walk and see for yourself how beautiful it is there.
