To be Baptized with the Spirit or Filled with the Spirit is not a “once for all” experience. I cannot emphasize too strongly. The Baptism with the Spirit is a gift received from the hand of God. The Baptism with the Spirit is not an experience to be attained. It is a spiritual condition to be maintained.(Emphasis JD) You d not struggle or strive for “your Baptism,” and step up on to a super spiritual level when your receive. You do not “have all God has for you brother” when you receive the Baptism with the Spirit. You have not arrived. You have only just started!
We sometimes hear the expression, “One baptism; many fillings.” True, but I would say”One baptism, daily fillings” is the need of every Christian. For it is written: “The inward man is renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16). How? “Strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man” (Ephesians 3:16). We do not have Power for holy living an a radiant testimony today from last years baptism but from this morning’s filling. God is not looking for “Spirit baptized” Christians: He needs “Spirit filled” Christians. (Emphasis JD)
What is Graham Truscott telling us here? Indeed that the Baptism in the Spirit is not something that will guarantee us a Spirit filled life from that moment on. instead it is a starting point toward a spirit filled life in which that filling needs refilling regularly so that this “river of living water flowing from the innermost being” (John 7:38) may keep on flowing and not dry up. So the question becomes then not so much “Have you been baptized with the Holy Spirit?” but more importantly “are you filled with the Holy Spirit (right now, today).”
